Layer List Help

Groups & Layers
The Layer List, located on the right side of the Map Frame, is split up into groups (marked with folder icons).
Each group contains a series of layers. You can expand a group to see which layers it contains by clicking on the folder icon. To collapse the group, click the folder icon again.
Hiding/Showing Groups & Layers
Only layers or groups with a checkmark in the layer list will show up in the Map Frame. You can choose to make entire groups visible, or only certain layers.
To make a layer or group visible, click the square checkbox next to the layer/group name. To hide a layer/group, click the checkbox again to clear it.
A partially grayed-out checkmark next to a group means that only certain layers within that group are currently visible. Clicking on the checkmark will automatically make all layers in the group visible, and the checkmark will change to solid black.
Please Note: The more layers you have visible, the more data must be retrieved from the server. Having many layers visible at once, particularly if you are in a zoomed-out view, may slow down the loading of maps. If maps are taking too long to load, try hiding some of the visible layers and/or zooming in to a closer perspective.
Auto Refresh
By default, map sites are set to "auto-refresh." This means that every time you click on a layer or group to show or hide it, the Map Frame will automatically reload to show the changes.
If you would prefer to have manual control over the reloading of the Map Frame, uncheck the box next "Auto Refresh." You will then need to click the "Refresh Map" button every time you show/hide a layer or group.
The Active Layer
One layer in the Layer List is always designated as the Active Layer. Many of the map tools can only be used on this layer. To change the Active Layer, click the circle next to the layer name. A small window should pop up with a message that the Active Layer has changed.
Important Note: You may need to set your browser to allow popups from www.nrdmapmaker.org to see these messages and to allow the Active Layer to be changed.
